Motivation

On Wednesday morning after dropping Morgan off at school I came by the gym to cheer on the 6:30 am class during their workout. I try to teach my youth athletes how to be mentally strong. I try to reinforce the importance of not cutting corners, to keep working until the very end. I constantly observe a decrease in effort when they do not believe they are being watched. We will see tremendous gains when we learn to hold ourselves accountable. When and how does this happen? How do I teach my youth athletes this concept. Back to my experience with the 6:30 am class. As you may remember it was a 15 minute AMRAP. The intensity I saw during the workout was great but the last 60 seconds and beyond was inspiring. Everyone increased their pace to finish strong. I saw at least two people continue to complete their reps of their last movement even after time expired. They didn’t just stop when the buzzer sounded. They kept going. So awesome. What if we all did that little extra? How good would my youth athletes be in every aspect of their lives if they always did a little extra. Thank you all for your example to me. Your example is having a positive impact on all those around you.

Strategy

Today is a team workout. Each Class will accumulate as many points as possible. Points are gained when a team member completes a 400 meter run, 400 meter row, KB Swings, or Double Unders. Each class can only have two people running and two people rowing at any one time. 200 points for each 400 meter run or 400 meter row. 3 points for each Double Under. 1 point for a jump rope. 1 point per 18# KB Swing. 2 points per 35# KB Swing, 3 Points per 53# KB Swing, 4 points per 70# KB Swing.
