Motivation:
Sarah and I woke up at 2:10 AM local time here in Hawaii to try our look with the infamous Stairway to Heaven hike on the windward side of O’ahu.  It is infamous because the city of Honolulu renovated the stairway that climbs a steep ridge of the mountain but it is technically closed because of a dispute with the neighbors where people have to park to access the hike.  The guard supposedly arrives at 3:30 am but from all accounts it is not a big deal as long as you get there before he does.  Once he is there he refuses access up the stairs but does not bother with the people coming down off the trail.  We arrived in the neighborhood at 3:00 am but we are guessing because of the holiday the local police were on guard turning people away at the trailhead. So disappointing.  We missed our window by just a few minutes since we could see flashlights going up the mountain.  Looks life we get to try again tomorrow.  Since I didn’t get my exercise I decided to go for a run.  We are staying in Waikiki which you would think would be a great place for a run.  I was wishing I was on a Alicia.  Waikiki is a city with a lot of vehicle traffic and a large homeless population.  The smells are exotic alright.  We have it pretty good in our lovely Mission Viejo.  Hopefully I will have pictures from the stairway of Heaven for the Wednesday post.
