Staying positive. My Silverado High School group is wavering. I had several of my consistent youth return to their home high schools but this makes them unable to attend my classes. This is the dilemma I face. I constantly lose my athletes that are getting their act together and doing better in school. The group I have right now lacks that determination to better themselves. Any excuse they can come up with not to come they use. It is frustrating from my standpoint to see these kids not striving for their potential. Their own self confidence is so low that they are not willing to even try to better themselves. While it has been difficult for me I am doing better at realizing that I can only do so much for them. Ultimately they are responsible for their own success. I believe there are a lot of societal issues at play here. While some of these kids have hardships that I would not wish on anyone a lot of these kids come from affluent families. These kids need to learn to work. What can we do to teach this generation the value of hard work? This is a rambling of thoughts, I apologize. I guess what I am saying is that there are many kids out there that do want to be better and that I (we) can’t generalize an entire group based on a few. But then I still wonder, who are the few?
